A writer does not need to be the cleverest. A writer does not need to have the highest Intelligence Quotient. A writer only needs to have a little Imagination Quotient. As far as good writing is concerned, this is judged by peers and readers alike and is on a spectrum. Nonetheless, in my opinion, good writing does not substitute for intrigue (hooking and keeping the reader) in a story.
