Though she didn't finish secondary school for reasons beyond her control, Nkem was bright and intelligent as can be gleaned from the book. She'd studied the English language with her son; making use of the dictionary and English literature books to better herself and help prepare her son for university studies she'd hoped would be a reality for him.

I was impressed with her vocabulary. I had to stop a few time to google myself. At one point, I was thinking where did a village girl get such an advance vocab, so I am glad you pointed this out here. Still her vocab is more in line with someone walking the halls of Oxford University, and why can't it be? It pushes back on my own stereotyping.

Goes to show that impossible is nothing. One can achieve most things one sets one's mind to and works fervently toward.
